Who Are We?

Since its founding in 1964, the Georgia Association for Pupil Transportation (GAPT) has been dedicated to ensuring the safety of students who rely on school bus services throughout the state. GAPT works in close partnership with the Georgia Department of Education's Pupil Transportation Division to fulfill this mission.

GAPT’s membership includes representatives from both public and private schools, as well as contractors who manage transportation services for school districts. These members range from some of the nation’s largest school systems to small rural districts. Each day, Georgia’s school buses transport over 1,000,000 students using nearly 20,000 buses—covering the equivalent of more than 30 trips around the globe.

Notably, GAPT's largest member systems include nine of the 100 largest school bus fleets in the United States. School districts in the metropolitan Atlanta area alone transport over 400,000 students daily—more than any other metro area in the country.

VISION: “GAPT will serve as the leading resource for pupil transportation professionals in the State of Georgia and inspire a culture of continuous improvement.”

MISSION: “GAPT will build capacity in pupil transportation professionals by providing information, promoting innovation and serving as an advocate for those professionals as they partner with their communities to meet the needs of their students.”
